I have always
admired Juliette as a person and an actress. I enjoy watching
her in movies such as "Christmas Vacation," "Cape
Fear," and others. When I first talked to her about doing
her portrait, she made it clear that she wanted me to paint
my "interpretation" of her. I had many interesting
ideas before the photo shoot and even a title: "Juliette-inside
and out." During the photoshoot, I was so struck by her
simple, natural beauty that I threw out all my original ideas.
But I kept the title, as it seemed to add to the mystery and
symbolism of the painting. I like to think of this portrait
as being my modern day "Mona Lisa." (1997)
