Dolphin Rides is one of seven collaboration
paintings that I have done with famed marine life artist
Wyland. When we met at the L.A. art expo in 1992, Wyland
asked me if I would like to collaborate with him. He told
me he would like to do two paintings and have them unveiled
at a show he was having in his San Diego, California gallery,
which was in less than a month. I thought "That's nuts",
but always up for an artistic challenge I said "Lets
do it" I did a couple quick sketches, painted the top
half of the canvases, gave them to Wyland to paint the bottom
half, he then sent them to his framer, who delivered the
paintings to the show only one hour late. The models for
this painting were my daughter of 6 monthes, a few neices
and cousins and a few neighbors. For that realistic look,
I cut out a fin from an old boogie board and tied it around
my Brother in law so that my 7 year old cousin could "Ride"
him while I took photographs.
